The Foundation for Tigard Tualatin Schools

Mission
Our mission is to expand the possibilities for learning by fostering un-precedented giving. We believe that raising the bar for one student raises it for all and that a better education improves every aspect of our community. The Foundation works for the benefit of all students and our whole community. View the latest newsletter.

Our foundation was started in 1991 and is an organization independent from the school district.  We are a 501(c)(3), nonprofit, public benefit corporation, organized exclusively for education and charitable purposes.

Our volunteer Board of Directors represent a cross section of school patrons, community leaders, and parents.  Decisions regarding expenditures of funds are made by the Board with the  goal of balancing classroom and district needs with community and donor interests.

Foundation Educators
Our number one strategy for enriching and enhancing academic achievement in our schools is to reduce class sizes. By funding educators, The Foundation helps each school to better serve the individual needs of each student.

The majority of The Foundations dollars pay for Foundation Educators. Meet our Foundation Educators and read more about the success of this program.

Innovative Grants
Each year, a $5,000 grant will be awarded to the teacher(s) wanting to implement a new and innovative model in their classrooms. The grant has been designed to be very flexible, allowing for teachers to be creative in their proposals. Read about the 2008 winners or download the grant application.

Caring Closet
Through the Caring Closet , The Foundation provides help to disadvantaged students and families who are recommended by counselors, teachers, or principals.  These families can receive clothing and household items from the Caring Closet or assistance with the payment of utility bills, etc..  Grants, donations from individuals and businesses as well as monetary support from The Foundation support the Caring Closet.

Donations
You may donate online or print out a form and mail it in. Your employer may match your contribution to the Foundation so check with your Human Resources office for more information.

Strong Schools = Strong Community

It is our belief that strong public schools promote strong communities. They allow children the opportunity to compete in a larger global economy. Strong schools provide a ready work force for local businesses. They prepare tomorrow's civic leaders, business owners and managers, doctors, parents, taxpayers, and local heros.

Scholarships
Over the last decade, local community members have generously established college scholarships for high school seniors through their bequests to the school district.  The Foundation manages the distribution of these scholarships.

Why we do what we do
Our efforts positively impact students at a time when schools desperately need local solutions to shortages created by a State budget crisis. With conventional funds becoming scarce, The Foundation plays a vital role for OUR students and schools by sending all donations directly back into Tigard-Tualatin schools.

Volunteering

We are truly a community based organization and rely completely upon concerned volunteers willing to join our effort to maintain the highest possible standards for our schools and provide the best learning environment for our children.
